Well done! If your looking here, consider you have made a brave move towards reaching out for guidance and support. Whatever it is that's troubling you or leaving you stuck in life, always remember there is a solution for everything. Only you have the answers to be explored with my help. Life presents us with many challenges, more for some than others, the trick is to move through these and come out the other side. We learn from the lessons received through hardship and how we cope through them makes us stronger people. Fear, loss, depression, anxiety keep us stuck, life's too short not to do something about it and move on...

Depression, anxiety, stress, suicidal ideation bereavement and loss, self-esteem, sexual abuse, trauma, sexual identity/orientation, bullying and workplace issues, life transitions, relationships and intimacy issues, body issues.
From my perspective, psychotherapy means healing. It is the opening, where individuals begin to experience a more full contact with themselves and the outside world. I help them understand their emotions that signpost their needs. I help them to discover their unfulfilled needs and, together, we look for obstacles and barriers that could prevent people from fully enjoying their lives. One step at a time, they become increasingly ready to lead their lives consciously. They begin to authentically live, rather than continue, their lives.

Attending counselling can be rewarding for people and can lead to changes in one’s life which reduce distress and increase one’s ability to cope with life’s difficulties. However at times it may bring up unconformable aspects of one’s life. Sometimes aspects of therapy can be challenging but over time lead to a greater ability to cope with past, present or future issues which may arise.

I treat a variety of common mental health difficulties and life challenges (e.g. mood and anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD, complex trauma, relationships issues, stress, low self-esteem, perfectionist traits). Some people aren’t quite sure what’s going on for them, but something just doesn’t feel right. Whatever your struggle is, I want to help you to get your life on track, break out of unhelpful patterns of behaviour, and find meaning and satisfaction in life. I can offer you a safe and non-judgmental space to explore what it is that’s causing you difficulty, and an evidence-based approach to help you to finally move forward.

Many therapists focus on what is "wrong" and use 'referring issues' as the start point. However, personal introspection, guided or not, tends to keep the pain of the past very much in the present. Which doesn't help much. What does? The latest findings from neuroscience strongly indicate that reifying the time when you were at your best, and your high points in your life is a far more preferable approach. By recalling those past times we not only recreate the memory but also recreate how we felt at that time. So that brings positive rather than negative feelings from the past into the present--and that is a great place to begin!

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression counsellors in Limerick. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
