I work primarily with adults facing chronic, life-limiting, or potentially life-threatening conditions, such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, or AIDS. I focus on helping clients find successful ways to cope with illness, and to integrate the experience of illness into their life story and world view. This often involves discussions of faith and spirituality. I work with patients where they are, so if there is underlying mental illness or intellectual disability, I may work with it instead of trying to change it, unless, of course, the client wants to change. Biofeedback therapy is an evidence-based, short-term, mind-body therapy in which clients learn to control bodily responses that are often involuntary and can feel uncontrollable. During a session with Dr. Pabst, she will utilize biofeedback sensors to scientifically track in-session breath patterns, muscle tension, perspiration, posture, heart-rate and temperature so you can receive visual and/or auditory feedback on your physical responses. As a result, you can see your innate stress responses in real-time, learn what triggers them and ultimately change your body’s responses for improved comfort and self-control.
