For nearly 20 years, I've helped New Yorkers with depression, anxiety, and troubled relationships solve their problems and get more out of life. My style is warm and sympathetic. My patients are successful adults, a diverse and open-minded group. Up-and-coming professionals. Creative types. Established families on the upper East and West Side. They have a safe place here with me in Greenwich Village, which is, after all, a traditional haven of free discussion and exploration.

I provide individual therapy that is warm, collaborative, and tailored to meet the unique needs of each person I see. I strongly value inclusivity, liberation, and respect--values I incorporate into my work by staying centered in a Black feminist and HAES perspective. My clients arrive in therapy coping with trauma, depression, anxiety, and grief. Together, we work not only toward developing healthy coping skills, but toward healing for a sense of purpose, contentment, and peace. Therapy is an excellent place to affirm and internalize a greater sense of self worth and to practice a compassionate attitude toward yourself.

I have experience working with most mental health disorders including depression, anxiety, and PTSD, among others.
With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting all of our lives, my entire orientation has changed for the time-being. Most clients coming to me are in crisis due to the pandemic and thus, while long-term goals and historical issues are important, I tailor what I do to what clients need. And what I'm finding is that clients need help coping with social isolation and profound feelings of uncertainty. Many are experiencing panic, severe anxiety and depression. It's getting through the moment and trying to keep an eye on the future that seems, to me, to be most pressing. I offer flexible telehealth sessions to all.

My practice is for adults who are experiencing stress, anxiety, grief, depression, guilt or low self esteem.
We are all collectively facing a stressful period in our lives. Covid 19 has changed almost everything that we once knew. Especially now we need to feel connected and have a safe place to discuss your feelings. Starting therapy can often be difficult and intimidating. My supportive approach helps to establish a connection in which you can feel heard and understood. We will work together to uncover issues and behaviors that have stopped you from being able to reach your goals and experience a sense of well being, In the process, you will acquire greater awareness and discover coping methods that will help manage your feelings.

My specialty is working to relieve anxiety and depression, along with the ramifications of chronic physical illness, as I view these issues as family illnesses, effecting each individual and family member differently.
Covid-19 has brought the world of mental health fragility to a new level never seen before. The isolation and loneliness felt by everyone from children to the elderly has caused a rise in depression, anxiety and fear regarding every day life and the future. These strains are unhealthy emotionally and physically and need attention to avoid lasting impressions. The working relationship in therapy is to define underlying issues, stuck thought patterns and transform negative behavior to evolve into a positive and thriving attitude and consequently, life choices. We will join together to create the life you desire, as I help guide you.

These are tough times, acknowledged by former, First Lady Michelle Obama speaking about her "low grade depression," something many of us are experiencing or trying to avoid.
I consider myself a "HappinessCoach." I will help you reconstruct after a bad relationship, a career that's gone off course or during times of anxiety and/or depression. If it seems your life is on a downward spiral we will work to get things climbing in the right direction. If you're feeling unsure but would like new things to spring up, I will help you to get things blossoming. If you have had a complicated life or complicated relationships, I will help you unpack the issues, explore, clarify and resolve. My method uses mostly cognitive behavioral therapy, which is real talk, real answers, real change, more happiness.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression therapists in New York. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
