I believe in collaboration and in change. My approach combines cognitive behavioral therapy methods with stress reduction, mindfulness, and problem-solving approaches. Psychotherapy is ultimately about living a fuller, more meaningful life and I believe I can help you achieve this. There are many triggers we all face: relationship and identity issues, loss or trauma, perfectionism, and life transitions. I am interactive and direct in challenging dysfunctional patterns that are getting in the way of leading the life you want. I will work collaboratively with you to develop a plan of action, building on strengths, to bring balance, meaning, and ease into your life.
I have been extensively trained in psychodynamic, CBT, mindfulness, and Interpersonal techniques, and I tailor each person's treatment to their individual needs, providing a comprehensive and specific treatment plan for each person. I provide psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families. In addition, I run four groups in my practice.
In the past, I worked for the UN and in the field of human rights. I have continued this work through Physicians for Human Rights, the Global Psychosocial Network, and the Mount Sinai Human rights clinic. I feel that my continued international work adds a layer of complexity and depth to my clinical work.

Sarah Gundle's Groups

Therapeutic Writing Group for Trauma Survivors

The women's therapeutic writing group is for women who have had trauma histories and are interested in understanding their trauma better through the vehicle of writing. The group begins with a check-in and then we read a poem aloud which has themes evocative of trauma. There is then a free-writing period where the group members write. The heart of the group is the exploration of people's writing where group members are encouraged to respond

Seeking Safety: Trauma group for women

This group is for women with trauma histories who are just starting out in their trauma treatment. Initially, I help empower the client to regain control, help them identify cues of who, what and where are safe, and teach coping skills. Later stages are remembrance, mourning, and reconnection. The therapist is both "witness and ally" and I help the client face the devastation inflicted by the trauma and/or substance use. I then support the client's efforts to create a new life. to their own inner traumas through their responses to others' as well as their own work.
