Behind problems hide unmet needs. I believe therapy is for everyone, as none of us go through life unaffected by its many complexities. This is no weakness: it's part of being human. Life often has a way of making us feel alone, misunderstood, or strange. Situations arise that make us feel unloved, empty, disconnected, or isolated. This can be changed. I work collaboratively, and come from a place of deep respect and empathy. I let the client guide me in what I consider to be an egalitarian journey. My goal is that each person feels safe, seen, and heard.
I specialize in a wide range of issues, such as anxiety, depression, maternal mental health, identity, men's issues, relationship problems, grief & loss (including Complicated Grief Therapy), and work stress. I also have extensive experience working with children on areas such as emotional regulation, ADHD, anxiety, loss & grief, and social skills building.
I have an advanced certificate in the psychology of Sexuality, Women, and Gender. I earned a dual Masters degree from Columbia University in Counseling Psychology and Mental Health Counseling, and am currently pursuing post-graduate training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Lea Schupak's Groups

Mother Loss / Motherless Daughters Group (online)

A unique group aimed to unite and support grieving daughters / womxn who lost their mothers before age 20. Focus will be on the complexities of navigating the world after the loss of a mother. In particular, the group will examine: the unfolding of grief; obstacles to the grieving process; finding one’s identity amidst an early parental loss; impact of loss on present relationships; continuing bonds; coping with loss; mothering without a mother (applies to: existing moms, moms-to-be, and those ambivalent to motherhood); parenting ourselves. Best suited to those whose loss occurred more than 12 months ago.

Motherhood Group / New Moms Support (online)

Becoming a mother is a transformative process. Pregnancy and motherhood are journeys filled with hopes, fantasies, but also uncertainty and distress. This can bring up unresolved feelings from the past, or be further complicated by external factors such as work and societal demands, family, or partner issues. Using a holistic approach, this group will provide the support needed for the wellbeing of new moms, or moms-to-be. It will be a chance to connect with others, as well as receive coping strategies to reduce stress and feel more empowered.
