My treatment approach is primarily relational, valuing authenticity and connection with my clients, drawing on a range of clinical interventions and strategies based on what I believe will work best for each individual.
There is great value in asking for help. It tells me you have the desire to live a more authentic life, to develop the skills to manage its ups and downs more effectively, and to deepen connection- within the self and with the world around you. If you find yourself feeling defeated, or caught in a cycle that is not serving you, I invite you to engage in this process with me. Together, we will work to untangle what has gotten in the way of living your best life so that you can begin to do so.

Some of the theoretical perspectives that inform my work include: anti-oppressive practices, relational approaches, attachment theory, mindfulness practices.
I’m passionate about supporting people along their healing journeys and paths of self-discovery. I don’t believe we seek out therapy because we are “flawed” or because we need to be “fixed.” Instead, I view therapy as a powerful act of self-care when navigating challenging systems, -isms, circumstances and relationships. My own lived experience as a neurodivergent Korean adoptee drives my commitment to practicing from a place that holds space for - and celebrates- each person’s multiple and intersecting identities.

I'm eclectic in my approach; my postgraduate training was in adult psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapyover the years I have also incorporated relational & some behavioral approaches into my work.
As a therapist for over 20 years I have worked with an array of professionals and creative people including artists, musicians, photographers, and writers. In my work with individuals, I believe in a collaborative approach and try to provide a non-judgmental and safe setting for exploring feelings and concerns in depth. I try through this process of identifying and understanding areas of difficulty to help individuals become more self-reflective and better able to affect change in their everyday lives.

We will approach your challenges from a relational and systems perspective, putting into consideration the context, environments, and systems we all reside in.
Seeking therapy can be an intimidating and overwhelming process. From acknowledging that you would like more support to searching for the right therapist for you, it takes time, effort, and courage to face your challenges and risk vulnerability. That is why I aim to create a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental space where you experience trust, safety, and comfort to bring your authentic self into the room. To be vulnerable and open as your true self without fear of judgment is to move towards freedom and expansion.

I am a certified Relational Life therapist (RLT,) training with Terry Real and have trained with Sue Johnson in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT.
My work is compassionate, interactive and decisive, always towards your greater authenticity. We focus on discovering, developing and achieving your goals and on reducing obstacles towards them. We can work quickly in a crisis or explore deeper issues. I love complex issues: the tensions within couples that stunt their intimacy. The challenges of parenting. The lingering sense that you cannot reach some vital aspects of yourself.

My approach to therapy is integrative, with an emphasis on relational work and psychodynamic principles and application.
So many of us desire to feel more connected, less anxious, and less alienated, but we simply do not know how to achieve this reality. This is especially true for some of us who have experienced attachment disruptions, or even more severe forms of trauma. Or, perhaps we see a path forward, but that path vanishes suddenly without warning and is replaced by malaise and renewed uncertainty, or, even worse, despair. Our work together will focus on developing that path in such a way where it will endure even in the face of adversity and the intrusion of the past into the present.

I use a wide range of clinical techniques including cognitive behavioral as well as relational and psychoanalytically-oriented models.
There are many approaches to psychotherapy. Some techniques focus solely on insight and history without targeting specific issues for change. Others aim to identify and attack behavioral concerns but do not pave the way for growth with empathy and compassion. In the former, patients feel soothed and understood but ultimately frustrated by a lack of change, not knowing how to break free of their problematic patterns of behavior. In the latter, patients can feel as though they are following one-size-fits-all instructions from the therapist and develop feelings of shame over the challenges they face, not knowing from where the issues came.

I work with adolescents and adults, and I have a lot of experience in helping clients with self-discovery, be it emotional, relational, or identity-based; with making life decisions, and adjusting to life transitions and dislocations, including acculturation and immigration.
My approach to therapy is warm and collaborative, and I seek to create a treatment specifically tailored to each client's needs. My training in psycho-dynamic, cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavioral psychotherapy, as well as mindfulness and health psychology allows me to creatively integrate all of these modalities in the treatment of depressive and anxiety disorders.

I utilize a relational and systems approach to see you in the larger context of your life, and adopt a psychodynamic framework to understand how this has influenced your development.
Too often, we lack a safe space to be our authentic selves. It might be that we identify differently from how we are perceived. Or that we have been marginalized in a place we call home. Or that we find ourselves in a career that doesn’t fit who we are or what we want in life. In today’s society, we are constantly weighed down by external demands: our society’s prejudices, our parents’ hopes for our futures, our partners’ desires, our managers’ requests, and the list goes on. With so many expectations, it can be difficult to tune out the noise and listen to our internal voices.

I believe in the individual's unique experience. We all have parts of ourselves that we don't recognize, don't understand, or simply feel we cannot change. In our nonjudgmental, safe space and with you as the captain, we will discover what is causing the difficulties in your life, and how you can grow into a more fulfilling way of living. At times, I will challenge you to dig deeper, but I will support you every step of the way. I am trained in Psychodynamics, CBT, ACT, and Relational perspectives, and the sessions will be tailored to your needs. I am fluent in both English and Mandarin.

I have experience using a variety of therapeutic modalities that can be utilized to help provide relief from troubling symptoms, yet remain theoretically grounded in a relational psychodynamic understanding of problems which guides much of my work.
It is not always easy to seek out help, or to make a commitment to a process of self exploration and self discovery. I enjoy being part of this process for individuals who are willing to invest the time and energy towards improving their lives. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space where individuals can feel supported and cared for as they explore, examine and challenge themselves to experiment with new ways of thinking about and engaging in their lives. I also have completed additional training in pre- and postpartum issues and welcome individuals during any stage of the family planning years.

As a psychodynamic, relational therapist, my goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable exploring the aspects of yourself that might be harder to reach.
Many of us seek out therapy when we're dealing with feelings of confusion, uncertainty or overwhelm. Maybe the relationships, roles or supports we normally rely on have started to seem shaky or even fallen away altogether. While these moments can feel de-stabilizing, they can also often become major turning points in our lives. Discovering the reasons why you held on to the things that have failed you, and the ways in which you can thrive without them, is a process that can create lasting, meaningful change.

I use a psychodynamic and a relational lens in my work.
It’s common that the relationships we have in our lives can get confusing, and we need the space to understand what’s going on for ourselves. Life can be incredibly overwhelming when we are attempting to balance our own needs, yet alone the needs of others. It would be my greatest privilege to help unpack what you may want and need from your life.

If you are struggling during this global crisis, you are not alone. Maybe the pandemic has triggered feelings of vulnerability and anxiety you’ve never experienced, or maybe it has amplified feelings of loneliness and depression you’ve been living with for some time. Social distancing, isolation, role transitions, and loss have disrupted our sense of control and stability. Whatever you are going through right now is understandable and valid. I want to help you reclaim balance and order in your life. I want to help you tap into your inner strength to function better and feel happier.
